Safe Local Trades supports treecycling scheme to boost funds for healthcare charity
Huge thanks to the many Safe Local Trades members who have branched out from their everyday jobs to help support Sue Ryder which runs Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough.
Having braved the winter chill, tree-mendous efforts have raised an incredible £17,199 for the charity through a scheme to collect real Christmas trees from homes around the city and surrounding villages.
The Sue Ryder Treecycling Scheme is run entirely by volunteer-powerand,across six days, over 45 volunteers collected over 1,086 pre-booked Christmas trees from 12 postcode areas.
This is absolutely the greenest way to get rid of cut trees after the festive season has ended and the firs collected in the local area have been chipped, rested and spread in the grounds at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, as well as given to other local spaces for the benefit of the whole community. Our huge thanks to Lucy and Andy Stone of Nene Valley Tree Services (in pic below) for supporting this now annual campaign.
Safe Local Trades members who volunteered to collect the trees included; Steve Bedford of Drylining Services, Daniel Harrington of Be Home Smart, Derren McPartlin of DMC Plastering, Jeremy Plant of Elite Exteriors and Aaron Glonek of APG Home Improvements Ltd.
Melissa Gray, Community Fundraiser at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice said: “What an outstanding achievement - we certainly couldn't have done it without the amazing support of Safe Local Trades. It was hard work, but very satisfying and we're incredibly grateful to have such a strong and dedicated Treecycling team.
“I'd like to say a special thank you to Eileen and the Safe Local Trades members for being at the centre of the operation, it made a huge difference to us, taking on this challenging role this year – we really appreciate it.
It's thanks to the support of our local community that we can continue being there when it matters for local families so no one deals with death and grief alone.”
